Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Yamaha R6) is the absolute dominator in the Supersport 600 World Championship in his rookie season and underlined his title ambitions with an impeccable performance on the Circuito de Jerez.

Aegerter wins the only one WorldSSP 600 race Jerez

The Swiss was charged accordingly after his loss of the MotoE championship, which in his opinion was innocent. Because there was no first race on Saturday due to the death of Dean Berta Viñales, only the race on Sunday took place in Jerez de la Frontera. The world championship leader showed a performance that rightly makes him a favourite for the title, and so the Swiss distanced the rest of the field by over 10 seconds to the chequered flag. Behind him, Philipp Öttl had his hands full to leave himself behind against Niki Tuuli, and secure his seventh podium of the year with second place. The Finn behind him also agreed with P3. The compatriot of the winner and WSSP 600 world champion from 2019, however, finished his race once more in the gravel.

Randy Krummenacher (CM Racing Yamaha) also disappointed in the team of the injured Luca Bernardi and fell in a promising position on the last lap at turn six.

The interviews after the race
The overjoyed winner spoke of very hot conditions and dedicated his victory to Dean Berta Vinales, who died the day before. After a good start, everything went according to plan, and he would have done everything to break away early and secure his victory. Philipp Öttl emphasized that he was dissatisfied because he was absolutely certain that he had what it takes to win. But fighting with technical or tire problems, he was lost and therefore only disappointed. Niki Tuuli was completely different after his third place. The Finn and his team would have completely changed the bike for the warm-up. He would have tried to maintain the pace of the one in front of him and almost risked a crash. So he decided to finish the race in third place, which his team would also prefer.

No champagne at the award ceremony after the tragic death of a young local hero in the junior class. From left Philipp Öttl (P2, Kawasaki), winner Domi Aegerter (Yamaha) and third-placed MV Agusta driver Niki Tuuli from Finland.

The current World Championship stand in the WorldSSP 600

With a lead of 62 points in six races still planned, the “Domi-Fighter” is now driving on to Portugal, where his only remaining competitor in the fight for the title must try to make up ground on him. But Stefen Odendaal has a mammoth task ahead of him. The Swiss is in top form and will certainly make it anything but easy for the South African and all other opponents. After P2, the best Kawasaki rider of the season fought his way back to third position by just one point. Philipp Öttl has overtaken Manuel Gonzalez, who this time missed the podium by a good one and a half points. The two are likely to be dangerous as the only Odendaal in the fight for the runner-up world championship, while Aegerter can almost only beat himself in the title fight.
