Remy Gardner lives in a different time and world than Wayne
We are generally reluctant to make predictions and only come forward with predictions in cases where we are fairly certain. For example, as early as November 2020 on the FIM and Dorna calendar, when we were among the first to not believe in it. Or in cases like Johann Zarco, when Ducati ignored him when choosing the two new appointments from the point of view of many. We warned last year not to underestimate the fast Frenchman. However, a look at his previous achievements was enough, it was completely without a crystal ball. When we first reported that Remy Gardner already had his MotoGP contract under his belt, it was not speculation. There was a leak here, so when we reported this on April 5, 2021, we were already certain and published it for this reason.

Remy and his father Wayne – different types and different times
In Jerez, the “Aussie” was asked in an interview whether there were parallels between him and his father, perhaps also in the approach to the races. The junior responded to this in no uncertain terms, and certainly not for the first time with a resounding no. In fact, he was mild enough with the journalist to point out that the 1980s were a completely different time. But he also emphasized that he and his father are completely different types in many ways. In this respect it is of no use to him to take anything from his father. Actually, Remy had already emphasized this several times and the clerk could have read it himself somewhere beforehand. But journalists are definitely among the people with the worst memory, otherwise no one would have written anything about a Ducati circuit before the double race in Qatar, for example.

The new Gardner and why it is so blooming in 2021
Remy’s talent has been undisputed for years and has flashed again and again in Moto2. After giving his first taste of his skills in Moto3 in 2014 and 2015, he went up step by step in the middle class for three years, but without any real exploit. Then he missed the first podium by a hair’s breadth at the season opener in Losail against Marcel Schrötter. Gardner immediately caught up with this in Argentina and then there were some setbacks. But the breakthrough finally came in the first Corona year, with two third places and one second place, as well as a victory at the season finale in Portugal. With the promise of getting a MotoGP contract if he performed well, he signed with Red Bull Ajo.

From rough diamonds to high performers
Lo and behold, the team boss from Finland, who sometimes looks a bit gnarled for some observers, turned out to be a double gold handle for him. Aki Ajo made the young Australian into a constant top driver. It looks like the team boss has landed another gem after Mike di Meglio, Marc Marquez (both 125 cm³), Sandro Cortese (Moto3), Johann Zarco (twice Moto2) and Brad Binder (Moto3) with Remy. With Gardner and Raul Fernandez, the title favorite Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) is facing very strong competition. The two teammates are still just ahead of the Englishman. But at the moment it looks like he will have to put all his skills and accumulated experience into the balance in order to survive against the rookie and the upcoming MotoGP rider. With three podium places in a row, Gardner is now trying to get the most out of this year without any pressure as far as his future is concerned. The current World Championship leader is definitely a very hot candidate for the title of the 2021 season in his last Moto2 season.
