Plan of the KymiRing racetrack as a computer draft – the premiere of MotoGP must wait at least 2 years after the originally planned date. It is currently still completely open whether other countries and their events will now cancel their events.

Cancellation of the Finnish MotoGP Grand Prix

At the end of the MotoGP FP1 at Le Mans it was announced that the Finnish GP had also been cancelled this season due to the pandemic. The question is whether this will also serve as a signal for other races in Europe. On July 11th this would have been the 10th round of MotoGP and no replacement has been named yet. Perhaps a wake-up call for those who thought idiotic announcements about the end of the pandemic were about to come true. This announcement also gives the lie to those journalists who claimed some time ago that the pandemic would not be used by organizers as a reason for rejection. As so often lately, the Dorna gave almost no information about it. The only statement was the cancellation and the reason for the pandemic, but as is well known, this does not only exist in Finland. In addition, the announcement that a week before the Austrian GP another Styrian Grand Prix was slated in Spielberg. Dorna’s information policy is about as questionable as its season planning for 2021, see the Sepang tests and races planned in Argentina and the USA just before the cancellation.

Aerial view of the construction site of the KymiRing in Finland – now, surprisingly, the cancellation of the MotoGP Grand Prix race came as early as mid-May, which had to be cancelled in the premiere year 2020 due to the pandemic.

Does this mean a signal for other events such as Sachsenring, Assen and Silverstone?
Because the state of Saxony is currently particularly badly affected by the pandemic, we believe that the slogans for perseverance are wrong. Even worse, of course, the constant speculation by journalists with payers plucked out of the air about the permission for spectators on the track. This is of course complete nonsense, just like the “return to normality” claimed in the winter by various politicians such as the Austrian Chancellor in May 2021. As was already clear then, “Shorty” wanted (Mr. Kurz is currently under increasing political pressure, not only because of his completely botched handling of the pandemic) only to reassure his compatriots. Now we are in the middle of May and still in the middle of a world influenced by Covid-19. It is not yet clear whether further events will follow the example of Finland. The races overseas are of course still considered particularly threatened.

The route from Spielberg in Styria, where the Austrian Grand Prix is planned for August. It was the first and for a long time the only MotoGP event for which tickets could be officially ordered for 2021. However, it is still very questionable whether all buyers will really be admitted by mid-August. Now there is the first double race so far, which is likely to be followed by more.
