Stefan Bradl in the Repsol Honda Box as a substitute driver for Marc Marquez. Should the Catalan continue to be injured, some opposing teams want to prevent him from playing an almost entire season again as a test driver. As co-inventor of the fairy tale about the alleged lack of competitiveness of the Honda RC213V from 2020, he scored a total of 2.45 points per race driven. That is less than a 13th place per World Championship run, so many understood his excuses very well.

MotoGP Q2 Top four: Bagnaia, Quartararo, Vinales and Rossi

After this was very well received by our readers in both English-speaking and German-speaking countries, we will continue with it on the second day in Losail. This article will be continuously updated with the latest events and results. This way you have the most important events of the day in one report. On Friday the drivers hardly crossed the finish line at the end of the session, the result was already ready on our side and the readers saw the top ten and most important information immediately afterwards, as nowhere else according to many feedbacks. The FP3 will probably play a subordinate role in Losail. This for the simple reason that in the heat around noon and shortly afterwards, the times from the previous evening and FP2 are almost impossible to achieve. The difference between FP1 and FP2 was up to 2 seconds for most drivers. This means that the chances of making it into the second qualifying in the third free practice session are only minimal.

Pol Espargaró (Repsol Honda) with full commitment from the driver, who fell in both FP1 and FP2, but still made it into the top ten and thus has the ticket for direct entry into Q2 as good as in his pocket. In contrast to him, Stefan Bradl, of all people, disappointed as the man with the most kilometers this year as a Marquez replacement as the fifth from last on Friday across the board.

For the times and events of Friday see here: http://www.motoracers.eu/losail-gp-1-friday/?lang=en

For the conclusion of Friday see here: http://www.motoracers.eu/summary-day-1-of-gp-1/?lang=en

The reigning world champion joan Mir (Suzuki Ecstar) on the Losail circuit – with 11th place behind Repsol Honda newcomer Pol Espargaró, the Mallorcan from Palma missed the direct qualification into Q2 on Friday evening by just 0.013 seconds. So everything looks like he’s going to have to try to fight his way into the last 10 in the first qualifying.

FP3 of Moto3: The Top Ten – no improvements after FP2

The placement of Tatsuki Suzuki, Izan Guevara, Darryn Binder, Xavi Artigas and Ryusei Yamanaka in the top ten is of no use to these drivers. As the times from FP2, as we already mentioned yesterday, were not achieved in the midday heat of Losail, the drivers named are not directly qualified for Q2. The starting grid will be in place here in the early evening as soon as Q1 and Q2 have been completed.

FP3 of Moto2: Two harmless falls so far – no improvement in time to FP2 expected

Shortly after Bo Bendsneyder, Jake Dixon also had a minor crash, but both were without serious consequences. At the moment, as in Moto3, an improvement in the times from FP2 on Friday evening is not to be expected. Sam Lowes drove the fastest lap so far with 2’00.709, but was almost two seconds slower than the evening before in the second free practice session. Shortly before the end of the third session, Barry Baltus fell, which looked much less harmless than Bendsneyder and Dixon. Except for a few bruises, the Belgian probably got off lightly. Marcos Ramirez also fell in the last minute, but was able to continue afterwards. As we announced on Friday evening, no improvements were to be expected in the third free practice and now this is already over. The following are the top ten of FP3, which however has no influence on the direct entry into Q2.

The FP3 of the 1st MotoGP double round in Losail

The MotoGP will continue shortly, for which the same applies as for the smaller classes: The first 10 riders from FP2 are considered to be seeded for Q2. After 5 minutes, Jack Miller was the first driver to crash into Turn 15, the last left turn on the Losail Circuit. With 1’55.124, Franco Morbidelli set a first best time after 10 minutes, which was, however, well above the fastest laps of FP2. The benchmark for “Jack Ass” as the fastest in the second free practice session is 1’53.387. With twenty minutes to go, three Yamaha riders are in the lead, but the times they set are still well above those on Friday evening. In the last 3 minutes one of the 3 rookies, Enea Bastianini, fell, then Aleix also fell, but both were uninjured. FP3 is over and as we announced on Friday, there was no time improvement. The following are the top ten of the third free practice, which has no influence on the direct entry into Q2. There should be an exciting decision about the entry into the second qualifying and besides the reigning world champion Joan Mir, the Honda drivers in particular seem to have very good cards at the moment.

Moto3 Qualifying – Darryn Binder on Pole

Pole setter Darryn Binder had to go through Q1 to recommend himself for the second qualifying, where the South African took the momentum with him and set the fastest time. With Petronas Sprinta Racing team mates John McPhee and Izan Guevara, the brother of MotoGP driver Brad will start from the front row on Sunday. With Jeremy Alcoba, Jaume Masia and Kaito Toba, further podium candidates are in the second row. Again the Swiss Jason Dupasquier was there with a good 12th place and 4 places behind Max Kofler from Austria.

Moto2 Qualifying – with the first absent

For Barry Baltus, the day was already over after his violent crash in FP3. The Belgian will soon be flying back to his home country and will have an operation on his injured arm there, which means that he will probably not be in Jerez until he was able to estimate in the first interview. Di Giannantonio, Vietti, Chantra and Dalla Porta qualified for Q2. At the end of the second qualifying, Lowes was the fastest, ahead of rookie Raul Fernandez and Dutchman Bo Bendsneyder. In the second row, Bezzecchi, Roberts and Gardner are three co-favorites for the podium. Jake Dixon in seventh just missed the sixth-placed Australian’s time by just 6 thousandths.

MotoGP FP4 with new top speed record for Johann Zarco (Pramac Ducati)

In Q1, of course, Joan Mir is one of the hottest candidates for one of the last places in the second qualifying. But with the two Honda riders Alex Marquez and Takaaki Nakagami, as well as last year’s two GP winners Binder and Oliveira, plus Petrux (all on KTM), the list of other candidates is long enough. Even the 3 rookies are considered to have a lot of chances for Q2. In FP4, Johann Zarco set a new absolute speed record in MotoGP with over 262 kph. Eighteen minutes before the end, the Frenchman caused the first sensation before qualifying. When the clock showed 15 minutes, the man from Cannes was also the fastest man on the track with a time of 1’54.324. Until the end of the fourth free practice session, Zarco’s time was only undercut by Maverick Vignales by a good two tenths.

MotoGP Q1: Takaaki Nakagami and Joan Mir continue – KTM embarrasses itself again!

There was still a discussion after Q1 because Takaaki Nakagami was supposedly on his fastest lap with yellow flags. That is why his missed Q2 is doubly bitter for rookie Enea Bastianini. But the Q2 started with the Japanese, so it was already too late. Only in 5th place, the best KTM from Miguel Oliveira, equates to another catastrophe for the oranges. The remaining brand colleagues of the Portuguese were to be found in the last 4 places!

MotoGP Q2 Top four: Bagnaia, Quartararo, Vinales and Rossi

Shortly after Jack Miller had set a best time, it was beaten by the French and his team-mate Vinales ended up in third place for the time being. In the end, however, Pecco Bagnaia set a new pole record with 1’52.772, starting with Quartararo and Vinales from the front row. Immediately behind in fourth place is sensation man and old master Valentino Rossi, who will start the race with Miller and Zarco behind the front line.

Statistics of MotoGP podiums until 2019 in Losail

Losail is not a Ducati track, as Paolo Ciabatti said on request before the Qatar GP. Yamaha won 8 out of 16 races so far at Losail and Ducati won 5, followed by Honda with 3. However, with such numbers, you should not only keep an eye on the winners, but also keep in mind that for the other podium places as well very many points are awarded. It quickly becomes clear that this is clearly ahead of Ducati with only 12 with 18 podium positions each with regard to Yamaha and Honda. The following is the evidence that proves how wrong even Stefan Bradl and Pol Espargaró were with their claim about the allegedly poor Honda performance in Losail in the run-up to the Qatar GP.

Schedule Losail Grand Prix Weekend

From Saturday to Sunday the changeover is to summer time, which only affects Europe and which is why the time difference to Qatar is reduced by one hour. The races take place early on Sunday evening. Of course, we report live and in a summary every day. It doesn’t get much faster than ours. So the top ten can be seen on our site immediately after they cross the target.
