Shortly after the start, the pursuers of the top four with Hector Garzo (Flexbox HP40) in front of Bo Bendsneyder (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team), Lorenzo Baldassari (MV Agusta Forward Racing), Xavi Vierge (Petronas Sprinta Racing), Remy Gardner (Red Bull Ajo Kalex), Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) and Tony Arbolino (Liqui Moly Intact GP). No less than four of these named riders should fall shortly afterwards.

Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner Top – Lowes messes up again

The Moto2 race on the Bugatti Circuit was not yet a lap old and Aron Canet, one of the contenders for the podium, was already on the ground. A little later, Augusto Fernandez got hit and the list of crash pilots would contain many more names. Alonso Lopez and Stefano Manzi were next before Sam Lowes, MotoGP’s most cited title contender. The Englishman had even torn his former teammate Xavi Vierge with him at Garage Vert. Joe Roberts, who was in second position, was one lap later. Hector Garzo, Tom Lüthi and Cameron Beaubier, another US boy, also fell later.

Fight for second place at the French Grand Prix with Remy Gardner (Red Bull Ajo Kalex) ahead of Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46 Kalex) – the World Championship leader from Australia was in the lead in the end and kept the lead just ahead of his teammate in the intermediate ranking.

In the end, the flawless drivers determined what happened
Marco Bezzecchi was initially at the top. But from lap five, Raul Fernandez took the lead and the rookie made no mistake until the finish line and drove a sure win home. In the meantime, Remy Gardner was already in fourth place, after initially being in ninth place. But the Australian again showed an impeccable performance and caught up more and more on Bezzecchi, who was initially far ahead of him. With seven laps to go, the young Australian also passed the Italian. The Sky VR46 driver made it to 3rd place, which did not compromise his chances for the title.

The best behind the top three
This time Marcel Schrötter and his new Liqui Moly Intact GP team-mate Tony Arbolino gave a clear sign of life. While the young Italian rookie even got his best Moto2 result with P4, it was at least his best result of the season for the German. With rank 6 he reported back impressively in the top regions after two tenth places. We can build on this before moving on to Mugello. Above all, he has caught up with the pursuers in the top five ahead of him. In contrast to his former team-mate Tom Lüthi, he made no mistakes in particular and was one of the two-thirds who saw the chequered flag. Between the two team-mates, Bo Bendsneyder was impressed in 5th place, a man who would almost have competed in the WSSP 600 next week. Behind the seventh-placed Ai Ogura and “Di Gia”, veteran Simone Corsi made it to a sensational ninth place with the Forward MV Agusta. A strong comeback for the Italian after his pre-season injury.

The latter crossed the finish line in eleventh place, but was disqualified in the evening due to his total weight being 1 kg too low compared to the prescribed minimum.

The many losers in the French Grand Prix

With a total of 10 crashed drivers, this time it was not particularly difficult to name those who failed in the Le Mans race. There were many among them who actually had what it takes for a lot more. Except for Xavi Vierge, most of them had crashed through their own fault and therefore ruined their own chance of a good result. It is annoying for each of these drivers. Be it because, as in the case of Sam Lowes or Joe Roberts, they would not have missed the connection with those in front of him, or because they had lost a chance to jump from far back.

Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46 Kalex) although he lost his initial lead and was happy with 3rd place in the end, the Italian was definitely not one of the losers in the Moto2 Grand Prix of France. Nevertheless, he was not entirely satisfied with his position, but he is still one of the title contenders before it goes to one of the most important races for him in his home country.

The fifth race of the season in numbers

In the evening, the disqualification of the eleven-placed Lorenzo dalla Porta was announced, whose total weight was 1 kg below the prescribed minimum weight. As a result, all the following pilots from Somkiat Chantra to Hafizh Syahrin moved up and the latter scored another point.

The situation in the world championship

It stayed very tight at the front, behind the two leaders the gap grew a bit and only “Di Gia” was able to stalk a little closer to the Lowes lying in front of him. Behind that there is still a huge gap of over 30 points. Because Roberts and Canet, who were placed in front of him, both fell, Schrötter was able to make the connection and the German is only one point short of intermediate 6th place. It is simply catastrophic for the Swiss Tom Lüthi, who is still hanging on a single point and carries the red lantern together with Hafizh Syahrin.
